Clueless: Silicon Valley Edition
January 24, 2019

To say that Mark Zuckerberg and Jack Dorsey are kind of clueless to the evil they have brought into this world through their social networks would be an understatement. Besides all the endless vitriol of people blindly yelling at each other, the platforms have undermined a whole industry of media players with solid creative chops. All this anger and fake news for what? To scrape as much data as possible for investors to throw stacks to warm up their helipads.

Listen: Most of us have learned that social media is a time wasted endeavour best practiced and monetized by mobilegenic millenials slinging moisturizer miracles. But to actually see and hear the dispassionate cluelessness of the founders of these monstrous hall of mirrors is to–quite frankly–be turned off by technology. The industry. And, especially, the people who create it.

It wasn’t always like this.

I have a story of my own. I was an owner of media company before Facebook and Twitter came to gorge on our creative flesh. But that’s for another time. (I’ll tell it after a few glasses of wine and a crying jag.)

All this to say: We really shouldn’t be letting these zombietrons and their inventions around our kids.
